Managing Digital Evidence Practical handling. Sound decisions. Defensible outcomes


Most investigations now run on digital material: phone captures, emailed screenshots, CCTV, messaging apps and online accounts. Every one of those items has to survive challenge on integrity, continuity and disclosure.
This one-day workshop builds confidence in collection, preservation, disclosure and courtroom-ready reporting. It follows the Home Office Digital Imaging and Multimedia Procedure (16 November 2021) and Annex A of the Attorney General's Guidelines on Disclosure 2024 (effective 29 May 2024).
Delegates work through a fictional case study from first complaint to post-seizure examination.

  2. Identify the point of transfer and designate a master and working copy.

  3. Maintain an audit trail and continuity for a digital exhibit from capture to storage.

  4. Produce a digital exhibit with a notebook entry or statement that will stand up in court.

  5. Explain what digital material can be seized, obtained by consent and retained.

  6. Record a digital strategy and its decisions in the investigation and disclosure documents.

  7. Plan a staged, targeted approach to examining digital material in line with Annex A.
