The Full Story
Court Skills Training

Giving evidence in court can be a daunting experience, whether appearing in a Crown Court, Magistrates’ Court, or County Court. This two-day Court Skills Workshop is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills required to present evidence clearly, accurately, and professionally.
From understanding courtroom procedures to handling cross-examination, this training ensures that delegates are prepared to provide credible testimony in line with best practice and case law principles such as those highlighted in R v Momodou (2005).
The Court of Appeal ruling in R v Momodou (2005) made it clear that witness coaching is not permitted, as witnesses must give their evidence independently and without being influenced. However, the judgment also recognised the value of witness familiarisation training, allowing individuals to gain an understanding of the court environment, procedures, and the experience of giving evidence, provided that real cases are not rehearsed.
In line with this guidance, our training uses simulated courtroom exercises rather than real case material. Delegates can practice presenting evidence and responding to cross-examination in a safe environment, without risk of compromising the integrity of real legal proceedings.
Whether you are a social worker, law enforcement officer, healthcare professional, or local authority investigator, knowing how to deliver evidence effectively and withstand questioning is essential for professional integrity and case outcomes.
