Social Media Awareness and RIPA – Conducting Overt and Covert Internet research in Investigations An essential workshop that provides an operational and practitioners perspective on conducting internet research including using social media and open source and understand when RIPA is engaged. The workshop will also cover when sources of information you encounter may be defined as a CHIS and require RIPA authorisation • Navigate the boundaries and national guidance on conducting Internet research/open source and determine what social media activity requires authorisation under RIPA • Learn to identify and understand what constitutes Directed Surveillance. • Understand the definition and scope of ‘private information’ under RIPA. • Learn to identify and understand what constitutes a Covert Human Intelligence Source (CHIS) • Understand the application, review, renewal, and cancellation processes under RIPA. • Understand the role and requirements of the Investigatory Powers Commissioners Office (IPCO). • Learn to apply procedures to ensure proper record keeping when conducting investigations Course Dates – Thursday 16th July 2026 The event is held virtually via MS Teams Who should attend? Law Enforcement, Public and Local authorities of all ranks who work in or may undertake internet and social media research in their role and may encounter sources providing information Our expert speakers The workshop will be delivered by Bob Denaro (KPM). Bob has worked in Covert Policing for over 20 years as a former Detective Inspector with the Regional Organised Crime Unit and recently received the Kings Police Medal. Bob has worked with RIPA since its inception in 2000. Bob is a former CHIS handler, Controller, Covert Operations Manager and SME for the College of Policing. Bob is a practitioner and this workshop is delivered at this level. Bob has led online investigations at a local, regional and National level. HOW TO BOOK £149 + VAT (GBP) per delegate Payment can be made via the website by PayPal/debit/credit card or select the Pay on the day option if you are booking on behalf of your organisation. This will allow and invoice to be raised to obtain a Purchase order number.

Cancellation Policy

1. Course Registration: • Participants must register for courses through the BDG Training Consultancy website (bdgtrainingconsultancy.co.uk). • Full payment or a Purchase order (if applicable) must be made at the time of booking to secure a spot in the course. • Confirmation of booking will be sent via email once the registration and payment are completed. 2. Payment Methods: • We accept payments via credit/debit card, PayPal, bank transfer or Purchase Order • For bank transfers, payment must be received within 7 days of booking; otherwise, the reservation may be canceled. 3. Corporate Bookings: • Organisations wishing to book courses for multiple employees should contact BDG Training Consultancy directly for group rates and customised booking processes. • A purchase order or formal agreement may be required for corporate bookings. Cancellation Policy 1. Participant Cancellations: • Cancellations made more than 7 days before the course start date will receive a full refund minus a £50 administration fee. • Cancellations made between 7 to 14 days before the course start date will receive a 50% refund. • No refunds will be given for cancellations made less than 15 days before the course start date. • Participants may transfer their booking to another individual without incurring a fee, provided BDG Training Consultancy is notified at least 7 days before the course start date. 2. Course Cancellations by BDG Training Consultancy: • BDG Training Consultancy reserves the right to cancel or reschedule courses if necessary. • In the event of a cancellation or reschedule by BDG Training Consultancy, participants will be offered a full refund or the option to transfer to another course date. 3. Force Majeure: • BDG Training Consultancy is not liable for cancellations due to circumstances beyond our control, such as natural disasters, acts of terrorism, or other unforeseen events (force majeure). • In such cases, BDG Training Consultancy will attempt to reschedule the course, and participants will be given the option to attend the rescheduled course or receive a full refund.
